Should Black History Month be a month?

Should February be Black History month?

I know that I am going to upset a lot of blacks or African Americans. I am proud to be black and I don't need February to remind me that I'm black. This month could lead to more racial tensions than unity in a divided nation. In my humble opinion, African Americans or blacks have been brainwashed to where they focus on being oppressed back in slavery than overcoming oppression and being out of slavery. To all of those blacks or African Americans out there, blacks or African Americans is not the only people who were discriminated against and called derogatory names. Some of the following races' are being discriminated against: Whites or Caucasians, Indians or Native Americans, Chinese or Asians, Hispanics or Latinos, Hawaiians or Pacific Islanders, etc., these different backgrounds went through struggles some were where they are from and some in the US and there is no month set aside for them.

I'm all for looking my fellow black or African American folks up online and in all honesty I prefer to hear about them online than in history books because I heard all about them in high school and in 3-4 years when I was in college. Do we really need to focus a month where a lot of good things happen to people and the shortest month of the year to talk about blacks or African Americans being oppressed and slavery? I've stopped talking about this month being only about my black or African American background and I've been writing blogs since 2013 about how people who are from different backgrounds are becoming best friends and how interracial marriage is more common. I was brainwashed hearing about poor, oppression, slavery referring to blacks and African Americans because that was how the public school system was taught to teach the students. The liberal media want African Americans or blacks to be portrayed as poor, underachievers, and slaves. When the media is joining in and hyping up things that is not necessarily a good thing and in this case it is a very bad thing. The black Democrats are the ones who wanted this month of February set aside for them so we can hear about them being oppressed. This has gotten to the point where whites or Caucasians are being blamed so much that you see whites or Caucasians in Black Lives Matter marches talking about  the struggles and slavery that blacks or African Americans went through. I'm not sure if whites or Caucasians realize that they are being blamed for the blacks being in slavery. We do know that all blacks didn't go through slavery, being oppressed, or discrimination & we also know that all whites didn't discriminate against blacks during slavery because whites were helping abolish slavery and discrimination. When we use a month to show favoritism to one race and not show it to all races' you are looking at more racial tensions than unity.

In conclusion, African Americans or blacks need to realize that they have overcome a lot of the struggles that they have been through and they have come a mighty long way. The only blacks or African Americans who act oppressed are the ones that are making bad choices and refusing to own up to the fact that African Americans or blacks have been the following: Actors and actresses, professional athletes, business owners, doctors, lawyers, coaches, judges, sportscasters, writers, etc. When more and more blacks or African Americans focus on overcoming then the slavery and oppression won't be such an issue to them to where they have acknowledge it at all.
